Beaver County most wanted fugitive arrested at hospital as girlfriend gives birth
A fugitive on the run for 10 months in Beaver County was arrested on Tuesday as his girlfriend went into labor.
Police said Ayende Crawford, 21, was taken into custody after officers said he came out of hiding to be there to see the birth of his child.
Investigators said they received a tip that Crawford was at Beaver Hospital with his girlfriend and immediately jumped into action.
"I sent my guys in. We've waited so long and we were not going to take any chances," said Beaver County Sheriff George David.
Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz reported that Crawford's girlfriend delivered her baby just minutes after he was arrested.
"We weren't giving him the benefit of the doubt. We had to take him right then and there," David said.
Crawford has a lengthy criminal history, including charges of attempted homicide and robbery.
